Takeaway.com, better known in the Netherlands as Thuisbezorgd.nl, is the no. 1 in the Top 250 Scale-ups 2018. This list was presented earlier today by the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship (ECE), Rotterdam School of Management – Erasmus University (RSM) and nlgroeit. Queen Máxima and Mona Keijzer, State Secretary of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, were also present at the event. Together, the companies that are in the Top 250 created 32.000 jobs!
Takeaway.com received the first price, also called the Golden Grower (“Gouden Groeier” in Dutch), because they created 936 new jobs in the period 2014 until 2017. With this number of new jobs, Takeaway.com doubled its number of employees for multiple consecutive years! Jitse Groen, CEO of Takeaway.com, received the award during the yearly event of nlgroeit in the SugarCity in Halfweg.
About the Top 250
The Top 250 Scale-ups is made up of the 250 Dutch companies that grew most in turnover and/or employees during the period 2014 until 2017. The top 10 is based on both the number of jobs created and relative growth in employees. Both are measured in Full-Time Equivalent (FTE). The Top 250 Scale-ups is published annually and is based on the ScaleUp Dashboard of Prof. dr. Justin Jansen, academic director of ECE and Professor Corporate Entrepreneurship at RSM. The ScaleUp Dashboard is an annual research into Dutch fast growing companies.
The Top 250 Scale-ups differentiates itself from other lists by its focus on growth in employees and turnover, instead of only focusing on turnover like other lists often do. The criteria that scale-ups have to fulfil is:
– Minimum annual growth of 20% in turnover and/or employee in the period 2014-2017
– In 2014, the company has to employ at least 10 employees and/or the turnover has to be 5 million.
This year, Takeaway.com scored highest on the combination of the amount of jobs created (936) and the relative growth in employees. The second place is taken by last year’s no. 1, Rituals. They created 2.448 jobs since 2014, with an average yearly growth of 44%. Despite the fact that Rituals created more jobs, Takeaway.com takes the first place with a relative growth of 68%! The third place, similar last year, is for Coolblue with 2.040 new jobs since 2014.
