Prof. dr. Tom Mom

Professor Strategic Growth & Implementation

Entrepreneurship, growth and strategy implementation

Entrepreneurship, growth and strategy implementation are the focus of Tom’s academic research and executive education. He argues that today it is very important for companies and their leaders to have a passion for entrepreneurship to define the future. But, at the same time, they must also to be very good at implementing their new growth initiatives faster and better than their competitors do. His research and education focuses on three themes.

The first theme concerns leadership. How do leaders that have the ability, qualities and characteristics to lead a (fast) growing organisation look like? Leadership is not all about passion, but includes strategic insight as well. Leaders need to be ambidextrous, that is, to be aligned and efficient in the management of today’s business demands while simultaneously being adaptive to environmental changes.

The second theme of Tom’s research focuses on multilevel organisations. How should the ecosystem and the organizational context be designed in such a way that they foster fast growth in companies? The creation of partnerships, networking-behavior and collaboration with start-ups are important here.

Thirdly, Tom focuses on solving questions about sheer implementation and execution of strategy. In each developmental phase of an organisation – from startup to multinational corporate – not only strategy formulation, but especially strategy execution plays a crucial role.
