Master innovation in the legal sector

Over the last few years, the legal sector has rapidly evolved. Increasingly sophisticated technologies along with pressure from clients, employees and regulatory systems are pushing legal professionals to keep up. However, these changes are also delivering the opportunity to re-imagine legal services and better meet market demands. To implement and stimulate innovation within the legal sector, Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship and Erasmus School of Law have developed a programme for legal professionals to embrace innovation as a strategic theme for future growth.

This 2-day programme (1+1) offers you the required knowledge, skills and motivation to enable legal professionals to develop sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship competences within the organization. Through this programme you will be able to discuss the challenges faced by the legal sector and learn and employ design thinking and other innovation methodologies to address them. As a result, this allows you to understand how innovation works in your role as legal professional and how you can contribute to it in an effective way.

Where law meets business

The ‘Innovation and leadership in the legal sector’ programme is offered in collaboration with Erasmus School of Law – Executive Education. Rotterdam Executive School of Law helps managers, entrepreneurs and other professionals to gain practical knowledge of law. Together we provide a value-driven programme by top scientists in the legal sector, innovation and entrepreneurship, all with extensive practical experience. Programme details

The programme consists of two in-class days with a dynamic mix of interactive masterclasses, themed discussions, application and practice of tools, and the development of personal innovation cases. Several weeks after day one there will be a collective return day during which the participants share their experiences with the group and facilitators and continue to deep dive in the themes and tools to approach these.

Day 1: How to Approach Legal Innovation

On day one you will discover what innovation in the legal sector means, what the possibilities are and how legal organisations can offer their services in an innovative way. We take an introspective look at innovation: what is the purpose of innovation?

After this day you:

  • Come to understand the roles and traits of a successful legal innovation professional.
  • Have knowledge of relevant innovation tools and techniques that you can apply directly within practice.
  • Have developed a concrete action plan, innovation roadmap, that focuses on walking the talk of driving innovation in practice.

Day 2: Innovation in (Legal) Practice

During the second “return day”, a review is given of the most important content from the programme on day one. Crucial this day are the participants sharing their experiences on the action plan and the challenges they faced with peers and facilitators for feedback.

After this day you:

  • Consolidate the knowledge and skills gained during the first day.
  • Get feedback on your innovation roadmap and the challenges that you encountered in practice.
  • Exchange experiences with other legal innovators in a structured way so you can learn from each other.
