Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurial education for and by the community

8 April 2019

After a successful 2018, we continue our growth and also welcome entrepreneurial visitors to our campus in 2019.  In this news item we give you a short update about the first quarter of 2019 and share some things to look forward to.

A successful first semester has finished!
In the first quarter of 2019, we received more than 5000 guests for more than 180 events at our campus. Most of which focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. The last three months were a good start of a new year at the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Monthly workshops for the community
In 2018, we started with monthly workshops for the entire community.  It’s great to see how the knowledge of all startups in the Science Tower comes together during these monthly workshops. Jesper Vieveen, founder of Symbid, provided the first workshop of the year about preparing your investment round. After that, Branding Expert Andy Mosmans (Ara) shared his knowledge and experience about Startup Branding in the monthtly workshop of February and Stefan Rijsmus, Creative Director of Studio Nul, brought the third workshop ‘Brand Storytelling’ to our Campus. In the next few months, we expect to bring interesting workshops to the community about security, extraordinary life and big data.

LSH010 Breakfast
In the first quarter of 2019, the LSH010 Breakfast has been hosted at our Campus twice. The LSH010 Breakfast stimulates innovation and collaboration in the Rotterdam life sciences & health sector. The first breakfast was organized by Life Sciences & Health 010, Gezond10, Rotterdam ehealth Agenda and Medical Delta. On this edition, we welcomed more than 180 guests in our LS&H Hub to build their network, be inspired by best practices and innovations from the sector and meet new clients.

The second LSH010 Breakfast on the 28th of March revolved around a completely different theme: serious gaming. More than 100 visitors started their day with a healthy breakfast at our campus provided by our caterer Van Eck Catering and improved their knowledge about gaming thanks to a successful case and one-on-one meetings.

NRC Live Impact Challenge
On March the 5th, NRC Live hosted their Impact Challenge in cooperation with Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University and ImpactCity at our entrepreneurial learning environment. The Impact Challenge helped 100 change makers to make a positive difference in 2019.  Participants of the Impact Challenge left the building with an expanded network, lots of knowledge about sustainable innovation and a fresh look on their businesscase.

Port XL Selection Days
PortXL – World’s 1st Port & Maritime Accelerator, located at the 12th floor of our Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship Campus – kickstarted the 4th yearly edition of its Rotterdam programme with the conclusion of the selection days – the climax of a year-long scouting process. After two intense days of pitches, Q&As and Industry interaction at our Campus, 28 shortlisted start-ups & scale-ups were evaluated by an expert jury, leading to 21 of those getting selected. The startups will now embark on an intense 3-months acceleration programme, while the scale-ups will board the business fast track programme over the same time period at our entrepreneurial campus.

Next few months
In the next few months, we will be hosting many interesting events on our campus again. In April for example, we will welcome over 500 students of Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University at our campus to start a startup with a team. At the end of the trimester, the student teams are expected to present the outcomes of their entrepreneurial adventure. The teams who excelled at starting their business and earned the most money, are invited to pitch their business in front of an jury consisting of experienced entrepreneurs and alumni of the Erasmus University.

Besides that, we are looking forward to receive many entrepreneurial guest in the next quarter of, among others, Erasmus MC, Climate KIC, HKC Academy and Young Lady Business Academy.
