The Developing Innovation Processes and Governance Systems programme focuses on giving you the skills and tools needed to drive your organisation’s processes and governance systems for innovation to a higher level. The programme helps you to create structured, efficient and repeatable processes for innovation, which removes the randomness of innovation and allows for a methodical approach.

Furthermore, you’ll learn how to successfully manage the innovation portfolio, how to set up open innovation processes and collaboration processes with start-ups to source your innovations for future projects. Lastly, you’ll also learn how to create governance systems for these newly developed processes. You’ll discuss how these these processes are currently evaluated and who bears responsibility.

Learning objectives

During this programme, you will:

  • develop your capability to evaluate, develop, and revise innovation processes from ideation to validation;
  • assess the alignment of strategy and innovation governance, as well as the desired innovation culture;
  • develop an integral understanding of effective innovation governance systems;
  • apply learnings to your own impact project to improve and sustain innovation.

This programme  is also a component of the Diploma Programme: Leading Innovation Excellence.

Programme details

The programme consists of a dynamic mix of masterclasses, personal training, real-life business cases and learning how to master the use of the latest innovation tools and techniques so you can drive innovation in your organisation. This three-day programme will focus on the following innovation topics:

Day 1: An Integral Perspective on Processes for Innovation Excellence

  • Engage in participant progress presentations and peer learning: participants share, discuss and reflect on their ongoing impact projects to build and improve innovation excellence in their organizations.
  • Develop an integral understanding of Processes and Governance for Innovation Excellence.
  • Develop the capability to evaluate, develop, and revise innovation processes from ideation to validation.
  • Engage in case study workshops, with best practices and tools and techniques.

Day 2: Processes for Portfolio Management

  • Develop and review processes for Discovery of Innovation Domains (Horizon 3).
  • Develop and review processes for Scaling and Accelerating.
  • Work in teams to analyze and evaluate real-life cases of innovation portfolio management.

Day 3: Innovation Governance

  • Develop an integral understanding of effective innovation governance systems.
  • Assess the alignment of strategy and innovation governance, as well as the desired innovation culture.
  • Develop the capability to evaluate and revise the innovation governance.
  • Apply learnings to your own impact project to improve and sustain innovation excellence.
  • Develop your coaching capabilities and receive feedback from peers, alumni, and coaches.

Top academics and industry-leading practitioners as facilitators

Top academics from RSM and international partner universities are brought together to lead this programme, which has been developed by the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship in collaboration with industry-leading innovation professionals from organisations such as DSM and ING. These professionals will also act as facilitators during the programme.

Prof. Dr. Justin Jansen

Professor Corporate Entrepreneurship

Justin Jansen is professor of corporate entrepreneurship at RSM. His award-winning research and publications provide new perspectives into the roles of leadership, start-ups, organisational ambidexterity, corporate entrepreneurship, and new developments to improve long-term viability and performance. Justin is scientific director of the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, and is on the editorial board of several academic publications.

Ferdinand Jaspers is programme director at the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship. His teaching and consultancy activities focus on innovation leadership. Based on his expertise at the intersection of strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, he teaches courses, masterclasses and boot camps on corporate entrepreneurship, innovation excellence and entrepreneurial culture. He holds a PhD from RSM.

Prof. Dr. Daan Stam

Endowed Professor Innovation Management

Daan Stam is Endowed Professor of Innovation Management at the department of Technology and Operations Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His research interests include leadership and communication, in particular in innovation and operational settings. Daan Stam is a member of the Erasmus Centre for Leadership Studies.

All programmes consist of 3 days in class. Next to these, there will be some preparatory work for each programme, and optional webinars. Furthermore, the participants may opt to develop and execute their own Real-life Impact Project during the programme with coaching from top academics and industry-leading practitioners.

What is the maximum number of participants that can join the programme?

The limit amount of participants is 15 as we seek for a highly interactive learning environment.

After completing this programme you will receive a proof or participation. The programme is also a component of the Diploma Programme: Leading Innovation Excellence. After completing the full diploma programme, you will receive the academic Innovation Driver certificate of the Erasmus University.
